Le risque d’exposition aux rayonnements ionisants dépend beaucoup des pratiques, et des appareils ou sources utilisés.

Aussi, et conformément à la réglementation, il convient d’effectuer des analyses de poste, au cas par cas, pour évaluer ce risque. La Personne Compétente en Radioprotection en charge d’effectuer ces analyses définit les niveaux de dose susceptibles d’être reçus.

  • Ces analyses permettent notamment de classer les personnes en fonction du risque et de définir les modalités de leur suivi dosimétrique.
  • Une personne dont l’exposition peut dépasser 3/10ème des limites de dose règlementaires (catégorie A) portera un dosimètre mensuel (changé chaque mois). Pour les autres, une dosimétrie trimestrielle sera suffisante.
  • En cas d’exposition plus particulière d’une partie du corps, les mains par exemple, il sera opportun de compléter la dosimétrie « poitrine » par des dosimètres complémentaires : poignet, bagues, cristallin... 
  • Dans le cadre de l’utilisation de sources radioactives liquides ou gazeuses, un suivi de l’exposition interne par un examen radiotoxicologique des urines et/ou anthroporadiométrique est recommandé.

In dental field, imaging practices (retro alveolar, dental panoramic, teleradiography, scanning, etc.) require the dosimetric monitoring of persons performing these acts. Most often, this monitoring is done using a "chest" dosimeter changed every quarter. Some workplace studies show that a monthly "chest" dosimeter is required. Maintenance of the detector (film or digital) by the operator can generate doses to the fingers such that a monitoring of the ends with a ring dosimeter could be advised. The environmental dosimeter (s) is also recommended for measuring the ambient dose in working areas in accordance with the regulations and the standards in force.
